Let the music play

Let the music play

A documentary about music and its people.

The art project was born from my love for documentary photography and my deep connection to music, as I was previously a Black Music DJane, played instruments, and sang in choirs.

For several months from 2010 till 2013, I went to music events without always knowing exactly what to expect, documenting various music genres in and around Karlsruhe (Germany) with my camera and a recording device.

It wasn’t just about documenting the present, I wanted to truly feel what defines each music genre. When we immerse ourselves in music, we are present, in the here and now, feeling deeply. I captured these special moments with my camera because that’s what music is all about—sharing the same feelings and expressions with like-minded people.

It felt like a long journey for me, one that shattered clichés, brought constant surprises, enriched conversations, introduced me to wonderful people, and added to my life experience.

I photographed the following music genres and scenes: cybergothic (including Industrial, EBM, Dark Electro, and Aggrotech), gothic rock, rock, heavy metal, punk, reggae, rockabilly, rock and roll, classical music, jazz, samba, salsa, reggaeton, indigenous Maya music, drum and bass, techno, electro, house, hip-hop, dancehall, gospel, Schlager, Volksmusik, Guggenmusik, party hits, and pop.

I also designed the logo with negative space in the form of a head within a musical note.
